Johana Heiman was born in Germany and came to the United States in 1938 to escape the Nazis. In March 1938, her husband left Germany to go to New York, but she and her children were still in Germany during Kristallnacht.

In this oral history interview, Mrs. Heiman describes her escape from Germany with her parents and two children. Mrs. Heiman goes on to describe the experience of her family living in the United States as immigrants early on.
