Al Green (October 2, 1920 – September 2016) was a chemical engineer for NVF Company and a lifelong member of Temple Beth Emeth. During his lifetime, he was a volunteer in many Jewish community organizations and was president of Temple Beth Emeth from 1968 to 1972. He received his Master’s in Chemistry degree from Virginia Tech in 1942, and during World War II served as a chemical officer in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
In part one of this interview, Mr. Green describes his experience as a chemical officer stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. In part two, he discusses the discrimination in hiring practices he encountered before and after World War II.
