Half a Chance:
Stories of Jewish Delawareans

Jewish immigrants to Delaware and their decendants embraced the opportunities provided by America's freedom. Given Half a Chance, they became part of the fabric of Delaware life while maintaining traditions and values that defined their cultural identity. This exhibition examines the personal stories of over 100 representative Jewish Delawareans from many walks of life.

This exhibition was part of the national commemoration of the 350th anniversary of the first permanent Jewish settlement in North America. The first section sets the stage by telling the story of the earliest Jewish settlers. The next four sections look at roles played by Delaware Jews in the Arts and Sciences, in the Professions, in Business and in Maintaining Tradition. All of the people in the exhibition are deceased. The final section invites you to suggest living Jewish Delawareans whose stories could be part of the 400th anniversary.
